Centring the declaration of upgrading of the existing Chittagong Medical College Hospital ( CMCH) into a medical university, physician community in Chittagong are spilted.
One group of physicians said , Chittagong Medical University(CMU) is the long-felt demand of the people of the region and blamed the opposite split group for unnecessary resistance against the establishment of CMU . Either group of the physicians claiming about the unbearable miseries of the poor patients if it is turned into varsity and the present medicare facilities on free of cost or nominal cost will go shut . They demanded the CMU in separate venue with separate infrastructure.
In the meantime , Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim disclosed the matter that Prime Minister has approved the proposal to upgrade the Chittagong Medical College (CMC) as University at function of handing over 10 hospital beds to CMCH on Tuesday .He also said all medical colleges and medical technological Institutes in Chittagong division will be run under the university.
The Minister also made this declaration while exchanging views with local journalists at Chittagong Circuit House sa me afternoon. He further said the University will provide modern and improved treatment to the people of this region employing highly educated and distinguished doctors.
City Awami League General Secretary A Z M Nasir Uddin, Director of CMC Hospital Brigadier Shahidul Goni, Civil Surgeon of Chittagong Dr. Sarfaraz Khan Babul, President of Chittagong chapter of BMA Dr Mujibal Hoq Khan among others were present at the view exchange meeting.
He also hoped that Prime Minister will inaugurate the CMU . Freedom Fighter and Researcher of FF Affairs Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman said through declaration of CMU , a vested quarters is hatching conspiracy for commercialization of the largest public hospital. BMA leaders opined if the university project is implemented as per proposal of 2010, it will be turned into a hospital of affluent section.
In the meantime, the officers and employees of Chittagong Medical College Hospital observed token strike and hold rally on hospital campus protesting the declaration of upgrading the CMCH into Medical University yesterday morning.
Under the banner of CMCH Officer-Employees Oikya Parishad arranged the protest rally and token strike. Convenor of the Oikya Parishad Romena Akhter presided the protest rally . Among others Member secretary Ratan Ali Miah, Joint Secretary Rupama Chowdhury , General Secretary of Diploma Nurse Association Ratan Kkumar Nath spoke on the occasion. The speakers in the token strike reiterated their pledge of continuous movement if the decision of upradation of the medical college is changed and they also warned for continuous strike against the declaration.
