Ctg Medical College starts journey as university

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday declared the Chittagong Medical College (CMC) as a university.
“I declare CMC as Chittagong Medical University (CMU), the 2nd Medical University in the country, by the directives of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the students here henceforth will attend their classes in the university,” Nasim asserted.
He said all medical colleges and Medical technological Institutes in Chittagong division will run under the university.
The Minister made this declaration as the chief guest at a grand rally held at Laldighi Maidan this evening.
Former city Mayor and President of Chittagong city Awami League (AL) A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury presided over the function while President of Chittagong South district AL Muslem Uddin Ahmed, city AL Secretary A Z M Nasir Uddin, Principal of CMC Dr Selim Jahangir, Chittagong civil surgeon Dr Sharfaraz Khan, former Principal of CMC Dr Imran Bin Younus, President of BMA Dr Mujibal Huq Khan and former BMA Secretary Dr Nasir Uddin, among others, addressed the function.
The Health Minister said 1000 more beds will be added to the hospital gradually after upgrading CMC into a University.
Nasim also hoped that CMU will not only lead in Bangladesh but also become a leading medical university in South Asia.
He said the University will extend modern and improved treatment to the people of this region with employment of highly educated and distinguished physicians .
He also declared that the third Medical University in the country will be established in Rajshahi very soon.
Nasim sought all out cooperation from all sections of the people to fulfill the Prime Minister’s dream of turning the college into a university.
The Minister also declared that no one will lose job or be terminated after upgrading the college into a university.
Speaking about present political situation, Nasim said the present government assumed power through constitutional means and will continue for the next five years as per the constitution.
Referring to elimination of militancy and fundamentalism from the country, the minister said it is the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who has freed the country from Militancy risking her life.
