A doctor of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) reportedly committed suicide at his residence in the port city on Thursday.
Mustafa Murshed Akash, resident of Chandgaon Residential Area, did it injecting overdose insulin in his vein, police and family members said. The physician was 32 years only.
“My brother entered the washroom around 5.00am. When we were not getting his response from inside, we knocked at the door around 5.30am. At one stage, when I tried to break open the door, he (Akash) opened the door and I saw several ampules of insulin lying on the floor,” said Newaj Murshed, younger brother of Akash.
“Understanding that he injected those in his blood vessel, we immediately rushed him to CMCH, but could not save his life,” Murshed said.
Akash was brought to CMCH in a critical state. The on-duty physician declared him dead around 6.20am, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder of CMCH Police Outpost.
Dr Rajib Palit, Emergency Medical Officer of CMCH, however, said the reason behind the death could be confirmed through autopsy report.
Officer-in-Charge of Chandgaon Police Station Abul Bashar said, Akash completed MBBS from Chattogram Medical College and was involved with a coaching center named “Three Doctors”.
Akash recently had an altercation with his wife suspecting that she was involved with an illicit affair.
“We learnt that he took an insulin overdose,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital outpost.
Doctors at CMCH declared him dead when he was taken there at 6:20am, he added.
Family members said, Akash had shared photos of his wife on his Facebook profile and wrote that he had extramarital affairs.
According to his final Facebook status, the couple tied the knot in 2016. He accused his wife of having an affair with another man before and after their marriage which caused a rift in their conjugal life.
