Ctg Customs fail to achieve revenue collection target

The largest revenue earnining watchdog of the country-Chittagong Customs House (CCH)could not fulfill the targets of revenue collection during the period of immediate past fiscal but revenue collections increased by about Tk.4000 crores than the previous fiscal of 2014-15 .
 The revenue target during the fiscal 2015-16 was Tk.31,120.50 crores but realized Tk.31,244 crores which is Tk.1876.50 crores less than the target, a CCH sources said. Sources said the revenue collections gradually increasing in every fiscal following the increase of imports volume, detecting the false declared import consignments, standarisation of tax assessment and the coordination of the officials.
 Sources said CCH realized revenues like import duty, supplementary duties , penalties and VAT etc Tk.31,244 crores during 2015-16 fiscal against the Tk.27,244 crores realized in 2014-15 fiscal. Mentionable that revenues of Tk.23,237 crores realized in 2013-14 fiscal.
A reliable sources said during the immediate past fiscal out of total collections, revenue realized tk.2123.17 cr in July, Tk.2190.58 in August, Tk.2565.43 cr in Sept, Tk.2473.99 cr in Oct, Tk.2440.90 in November, Tk.2643.43 cr in December, Tk.2614.70 cr in January, Tk.2693.19 in February, Tk.2712.51 cr in March, Tk.2587.34 in April, tk.3080.87 cr in May and Tk.3109.98 cr in June’16 respectively.
Out of the total revenue rec eipts incude Tk.12,421.34 cr as import duty, Tk.4067.21 cr as supplementary duty, and Tk.14,756.06 as VAT & Excise .
While contacted Joint commissioner of Cuistoms, CCH Md. Rezaul Hoque told The New Nation that the imports volume comparatively increased in last fiscal than the previous fiscals and imports through false declarations detected with maximum extents during the last fiscal.
As a result, the revenue collections including the penalties increased accordingly than the previous fiscals.
He said the officials of CCH dedicated their services with most sincerely and honestly to increase the govt revenues as well as the standarization of quality assessment also improved the revenue collection process . He also hoped that the continuity of revenue collections through CCH will enhance in current fiscal also.
