Ctg AL observe PM’s release day from prison

Marking the ninth anniversary of the release of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina from prison, Chittagong north and south districts units of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) organised discussions at their respective party offices here on Sunday .
On this day in 2008, Sheikh Hasina was released from the special sub-jail set up on the premises of the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) Building after remaining captive there for nearly 11 months.
The Awami League President was arrested from her Sudha Sadan residence at Dhanmondi on July 16 in 2007 during the military-backed caretaker government, which assumed power in the political changeover on November 1, 2007.
At a meeting, leaders of AL south district unit said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is leading the nation towards progress with the affection of people facing all the conspiracies.
Sheikh Hasina’s life turned into a desert following the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, they said, adding that she transformed her desert life into oasis for the cause of the people of the country.
Highlighting on the long and arduous struggle of the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina for democracy, they said Bangladesh became grateful for a statesman like Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she has been steadily carrying the flag of her father’s ideologies.
Chittagong south district AL President Muslem Uddin Ahmed presided over the function held at its Andarkillah office. General Secretary Mofizur Rahman also addressed the meeting, among others.
Meanwhile Chittagong north district President Nurul Alam Chowdhury presided over the meeting while it’s General Secretary M A Salam and senior leaders, among others, addressed the discussion at Dost building office premises of thenorth district unit of the party.
