CS against DIG Prisons accepted

The Anti-Corruption Commission’s charge-sheet against suspended Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Bazlur Rashid was accepted yesterday in a case filed for amassing Tk 3.08 crore beyond his known sources of income.
Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes of the court accepted the charge-sheet on Tuesday. The court fixed September 22 for hearing on charge framing and transferred the case to the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka.
Earlier, on August 26, ACC Deputy Director M Nasiruddin, who is also
the Investigation Officer of the case submitted the charge-sheet against the accused. Besides, on October 20, last year, a Dhaka court sent Bazlur Rashid to the jail after he was arrested by the ACC on the same day on a charge of accumulating illegal wealth worth Tk 3.14 crore. The following day, the Hone Ministry suspended him from his post.
The suspended DIG was arrested when he appeared at the commission’s head office along with his wife Razzakun Nahar to face interrogation about their alleged involvement in taking bribe.
According to ACC Secretary, Bazlur Rashid admitted that he gave Rupayan Housing Estate Limited Tk 3.8 crore in six installments. From April 20, 2018 to June 7, 2018, Bazlur Rashid paid Tk 3.08 crore in cash and cheque, but during the ACC official’s interrogation, he could not show any legal sources of money.
