Cruelty : Baby thrown from 7th floor by father

Staff Reporter :A 25-day-old baby boy Abdullah was killed being thrown by his father from the seventh floor of Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar in the small hours of Monday. Police arrested father of the boy and his aunt [sister of father] on suspicion of their involvement in the murder. A case was filed with Savar police station under Speedy Trial Act. “We have arrested father Fazlul Hoque and aunt Zabeda Khatun in connection with the murder. We are interrogating both of them to know the reason behind the killing,” Officer-in-charge of Savar Police Station SM Kamruzzaman told The New Nation on Monday night.Police said, victim’s mother Nurun Nahar is physically challenged woman and father Fazlul Hoque, a driver in profession, live at Jamsing area under Savar municipality. Victim Abdullah was born on July 2 in a local clinic. But he was shifted to Enam Medical College and Hospital when he was attacked by viral infection in blood and pneumonia. The four-day -old baby was admitted at intensive care unit under the supervision of child specialists Dr Md Shahin Akhter. Besides, the baby’s mother was kept in 716 no cabin. After the recovery, the baby was sent to his mother’s cabin.On Sunday night, Nurun Nahar, her husband Fazlul Hoque and aunt Zabeda Khatun were staying in the cabin. Abdullah slept after dirking milk at about 2:00am. His mother also was asleep at that time. When she wake up in the morning, she found that her baby was not beside her bed. After frantic search for an hour, the body of Abdullah was found lying on the ground. Security Officer of hospital Abdul Malek said, “The aunt [Zabeda Khatun] was searching the boy on the ground. We found the body there. It created suspicion. Besides, her statement was also dissatisfactory. “Later, the family of baby also raised allegation against Zabeda Khatun. So, we handed over her to the police,” the official said. The body has been kept in the mortuary for post mortem.  Chairman of Enam Medical College and Hospital Dr Enamur Rahman said, “Such brutal incident never happened in out hospital….We are shocked, astonished. We have asked the police to identify the killers as soon as possible.””We will take stern action after investigating the matter,” Habibur Rahman, Superintendent of Police of Dhaka, said.
