Rudder purchase case: Cross-exam continues

The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad’s lawyer on Sunday continued cross-examination of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Investigation Officer (IO) and Deputy Director of ACC Manjur Ahmed in the Rudder Purchase graft case against Ershad and others.
Later, the Judge-in-Charge of Dhaka’s Divisional Special Judge Court, Md Abdul Majid fixed February 20 for further cross-examination of the witness. On behalf of Ershad, his lawyer Shaikh Md Shirajul Islam cross-examined the witness.
Earlier, on August 14, last year, the court recorded the partial cross-examination of this witness No.11 of the case. He partially investigated the case as an officer of the then Bureau of Anti-Corruption.
HM Ershad was not present in the court during the cross-examination. His lawyer Shaikh Md Shiraj represented him as law.
Other two accused of the case are: former assistant chief of Bangladesh Air Force Momtaz Uddin Ahmed and Sultan Mahmud were present in the courtroom, while the remaining accused AKM Musa is on the run since the beginning of the case.
In the case Ershad and others are accused of causing a loss of Tk 64 crore 4 lakh 42 thousand 918 to the national exchequer in connivance with each other while purchasing rudder from Westing Company of US instead of purchasing modern rudder from the CSF Company of France.
