A ferocious crocodile recovered from a pond at Garuria under Bakerganj Upazila of Barisal was released after injuring one villager on Pyera River on Tuesday afternoon.
The released crocodile was more than 6.5-feet in length, about 2.6-feet wide, but it’s but weighed was not known.
Report received from Bakerganj said, a group of fishermen while netting a pond of Abdus Salam at Majhibari of Balugram village under Garuria union of the upazila, the crocodile nabbed on the net at about 10:30 AM Tuesday.
The netted crocodile was preserved at the courtyard of the Majhibari and later brought to local police station informing local officials of upazila and police administration, forest department, said Nurul Islam, Bakerganj police station officer in charge. Abdul Mannan, 65, a villager while tried to measure the length of the crocodile, it caught his hand and damaged three fingers.
Mannan was rescued by villagers and immediately sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Md. Russell, a relative of the injured.
After contacting with the officials of wild life preservation center they asked the authourity to release the crocodile at Local river, forest officials said. Abdullah Al Mamun, upazila forest officer, said according to that advice the nabbed crocodile was brought on trawler and later released to Payera River of Bakerganj on Tuesday afternoon in presence of Dipak Kumar Roy upazila rirbahi officer, Nurul Islam, Bakerganj police station officer in charge and forest officials and journalists.
