Criminals have become active again in the city’s Gulshan diplomatic zone despite a ‘security blanket’ in view of the murder of two foreigners.
Local sources said, a gang of criminals took attempt recently to rob a house, which is just a few yards from the Gulshan Police Station. The armed goons entered the house brandishing guns.
It is learnt that a gang of four criminals riding motor cycles entered a house on the Road No. 108 on Tuesday. The criminals took the security guard hostage at gunpoint. They later tried to enter a beauty parlour on the first floor and the flat of the Flat Owners Association General Secretary Shahida Naznin. There is a vegetable shop in front of the flat of Naznin whose most of the customers are foreigners.
Shahida Naznin said, they now feel unsafe though the house is near the police station and many important people like ministers live here.
At present, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the police, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and plainclothes police are patrolling in the diplomatic zone. Vehicles are being searched at checkpoints of each entry and exit point. When contacted, Officer-in Charge of Gulshan Police Station Sirajul Islam said that he was unaware of the incident. “Someone from the parlour informed him on Wednesday. I have sent force to the spot to know the fact,” he said.
Sources said, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal lives near the house, and there is also a police camp nearby. Besides, MP Nazmul Hassan, President of Bangladesh Cricket Board, also lives here.
