UNB, Laxmipur :
An alleged criminal was killed in a gun battle with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Kamarhat in Sadar upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Didarul Alam Didar, son of Safiq Ullah Farazi of Rupachara village of the upazila. Police said a team of Rab along with Didar, whom the elite force members had arrested from his father-in-law’s house at Baluchara village in Begamganj upazila of Noakhali district on Tuesday night, launched a drive in the area early in the morning to recover the firearms in his possession.
Sensing the Rab members’ presence, a group of criminals opened fire on them, forcing the lawmen to retaliate with firing that triggered a gun battle.
Didar was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. The elite force also recovered one light gun, a single-barrel gun and four rounds of bullet from the spot. The body was sent to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Didar was wanted by police in several cases, including for murder, extortion and terrorist activities. Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident.
