Cricketer Shahadat’s wife sent to jail

A Dhaka court has sent cricketer Shahadat Hossain’s wife Jesmin Jahan Nitto to jail in a case filed for torturing their domestic help.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yunus Khan passed the order on Sunday afternoon, rejecting both the remand and the bail petitions.
Mirpur Model Police Station OC (investigation) Shafikul Islam filed a petition in the court seeking five days remand. On the other hand, Nitto’s Counsel Kazi Mohammad Nazibullah Hiro filed a bail petition.
The court in its order said, as Nitto has to breastfeed her nine-month old
baby, she cannot be taken on remand for interrogation.
However, the investigation officer of the case can quiz Nitto three days within five working days at the jail gate.
Nitto’s counsel informed the court that Shahadat would surrender to the court today (Monday).
On September 7, journalist Khandaker Mozammel Hossain filed a case against the couple with Mirpur Model Police Station on charge of torturing their domestic help Happy.
The victim is the daughter of Aroz Ali from Jamalpur. In the morning on September 6, she managed to come out of Shahadat’s house at Pallabi with injury marks in her body, which journalist Mazammel saw.
But soon after the case, the couple went into hiding. Police are yet to arrest Shahadat in connection with the case.
