Bangladesh sealed the second win in the ICC Cricket World Cup to keep their quarterfinal hope alive beating Scotland by six wickets, chasing their highest ever 319 runs in the World Cup, in the Pool-A match at Saxton Oval in Nelson, New Zealand on Thursday. Bangladesh completed their winning mission scoring 322 runs for 4 wickets in 48.1 overs, spurred by the second wicket stand of 139 runs in 21.3 overs between Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah. Tamim hit 95 runs off 100 balls featuring nine fours and one six while Mahmudullah scored run-a-ball 62 with six fours and a six. Mushfiqur Rahim hammered 60 runs off 42 balls with six fours and two sixes. All rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Sabbir Rahman contributed unbeaten 75 runs in 10.1 overs in the fifth wicket stand to seal the victory. Shakib Al Hasan scored unbeaten 52 runs off 41 balls with five fours and a six while Sabbir Rahman made not out 42 runs off 40 balls with four fours and two sixes. Josh Davey grabbed two wickets for 68 runs in 10 overs while Alasdair Evans and Iain Wardlaw took one wicket each for 67 and 75 runs respectively in 10 and 9.1 overs. Earlier, sent into bat first, ICC associate Scotland scored 318 runs for 8 wickets in stipulated 50 overs, spurred by the opener Kyle Coetzer’s quickfire century of 156 runs off 134 balls with 17 fours and four sixes. Tigers skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza made the breakthrough taking the wicket of Calum MacLeod (11) in the last ball of the third over, caught by Mahmudullah with scoreboard showing 13 runs. Bangladesh continued the pressure and succeeded as Hamish Gardiner (19) was caught by Soumya Sarkar off a Taskin Ahmed delivery at 38/2 in 9.5 overs. Sabbir Rahman caught and bowled number four Matt Machan (35) at 116 for 3 in 24 overs, but the fourth wicket stand between opener Kyle Coetzer and skipper Preston Mommsen (39) plundered 141 runs in 18.5 overs. Soumya Sarkar caught Mommsen off Nasir Hossain to break the partnership with Scotland’s score at 257 for 4 in 42.5 overs. Soumya Sarkar also caught Kyle Coetzer (156 off 134 balls) with team score 269 for 5 in 44.4 overs. Pacer Taskin Ahmed claimed the next two batsmen — Richie Berrington (26) and Matthew Cross (20) — caught by Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman respectively. In the meantime, Scotland made 312 runs for 7 in 49 overs. Soumya Sarkar’s fourth successful catch was to dismiss number nine Majid Haq (1) off Shakib Al Hasan delivery at 315/8 in 49.5 overs. Number eight Josh Davey (not out 4) was the other scorer for the side. Taskin Ahmed claimed three wickets for 43 runs in seven overs while Nasir Hossain grabbed two wickets for 32 runs in 5 overs.
