The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has sued two companies for allegedly using less than specified gold in the crests awarded to foreign nationals for their role during the 1971 War.
Enayetullah Khan, senior assistant secretary to the ministry filed the case against the owners of the two companies with the Shahbagh police on Tuesday night.
Banani-based Emicon’s owner Mir Daud Ahmed aka Nazim and Md Mohsinul Hasan of M/S Mohsinul Hasan located in Shantinagar were accused of cheating and embezzlement, Shahbagh police OC Sirajul Islam said.
The Anti-Corruption Commission will investigate the case, he said.
According to case details, the accused misappropriated money by using less gold in the crests.
Nearly 250 foreign nationals were awarded crests, shawls and certificates in seven phases last year for their contribution to Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971.
A national daily in a report on April 6 said the crests had lesser gold than standard specified.
