World Diabetes Day observed: Creating awareness among people about diabetes stressed

World Diabetes Day-2016 was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country and the world with a call to create awareness among the people about diabetes.
This year’s theme of the day is ‘Eyes on Diabetes’.
Marking the day, Gaibandha Diabetes Samity (GDS) arranged a discussion meeting at the hall room of the GDS of the town on Monday morning with its president Gobinda Lal Das in the chair.
Vice president of the Samity Dr. Shahiduzzaman Harun, General Secretary Advocate Sekendar Azam Anam, joint secretary Mokbul Hossain and senior medical officer (SMO) Dr. Prodip Kumar Karmakar addressed the meeting, among others.
The speakers said the number of diabetic patients is increasing day by day in the country because of changes in life style and food habit and lack of physical labour. In this context, they underscored the need for creating much awareness among the people against diabetes to prevent it aimed at protecting the lives of the people.
Dr. Prodip Kumar Karmakar said though diabetes is a chronic and complicated disease, it is preventable.
Taking healthy food and living normal life is possible by controlling this disease, and the people, particularly the young generation, could build a health nation by preventing the diabetes, he suggested.
BSS from Faridpur adds: The World Diabetes Day was observed on Monday in the district as elsewhere in the country and the world in a befitting manner to make people aware about diabetes.
In this connection, Faridpur Diabetic Association(FDA) arranged a colorful rally and discussion meeting to create awareness among the people about the danger of the “silent killer” disease diabetes.
The rally participated by officials, members of the public, students and physicians paraded the streets followed by a police band party.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur Umme Salma Tanzia was the chief guest while Police Super Shubhash Saha was the special guest in the discussion. M.A. Samad chaired the discussion held at the FDA premises was attended by a large number of cross section of people.
DR. Khalifa Md. Walid of Diabetic Medical college, Faridpur presented the key-note presentation on the main theme of this year “Eyes on Diabetes”.
He further disclosed that the trend of diabetes disease is very much alarming. Now the number of diabetic patient in the world is about 41.5 crore while in Bangladesh the number is 84 lakh.
The speakers stressed the need for a disciplined life with changing diet habit and physical work to avoid this dangerous disease which pushes a man towards the definite destination of ‘death’ after enormous sufferings.
Dr Md Farukhuzzaman and Dr. Rahat Anowar Chowdhury made two power point presentations on the different aspects of this killer disease and urged upon all to be aware of this disease.
Deputy Commissioner Tanzia stressed the need for creating social movement against diabetes to make the people aware of it.
She also assured all kinds of cooperation from district administration for the help and uphold the activities of FDA.
Among others, FDA secretary Prof. Sk. Abdus Samad and Dr. Dipti Rani Saha of Faridpur Medical College addressed the meeting.
