Police on Sunday conducted drives at four sporting clubs in city’s Motijheel area on Sunday afternoon and seized casino boards, shisha and cash from there.
The clubs are Mohammedan Sporting Club, Arambagh Krira Sangha, Dilkusha Sporting Club and Victoria Sporting Club.
During the drive, the law enforcers seized nine casino boards, shisha bar, a huge number of gambling cards and cash Tk one lakh from Victoria Sporting Club, said Mishu Bishwas, Assistant Commissioner (Motijheel zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Besides, several gambling boards and a huge number of gambling cards were also found Arambagh Krira Sangha, the police official said.
The drives started at the four clubs simultaneously since 2:30pm.
The law enforcers started the drives on information that the belongings of different clubs were transferred to these clubs after they started the drive against casinos on September 18, Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Zone Anwar Hossain said. On the reason for the crackdown, he said, “It was based on intelligence that these clubs were running illegal gambling and casino operations.”
The police conducted the raids on four sporting clubs in the latest episode of the crackdown on illegal gambling establishments in Dhaka, he added.
