The BNP on Saturday termed the countrywide crackdown as collection of tip for law enforcers just ahead of Eid, apprehending more repression in the coming days.
“The law enforcers are arresting opposition party leaders and activists, and common people in the name of crackdown to suppress militancy. The law enforcers have got a chance to do business,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on the day.
He also alleged that the government was trying to make Bangladesh a failed country.
Rizvi says that the government’s sincerity is doubtful. “Our Prime Minister says that, as the head of the government, she has every information about the target killing. Then how was the ashram attendant in Pabna was killed a day after the PM’s press conference? Here a question arises if PM really wants to remove militancy? Or their real aim is to suppress oppositions? The people of Bangladesh believe there was a political agenda behind the massive police raid ,” he said.
The BNP leader said, the arrest of more than 12 hundred persons is questionable.
“Some drug addict may be arrested in the raid, but the opposition party men and the common people are the main victims,” he alleged.
The BNP leader said that the law enforcers are ignoring the higher courts’ directions about arresting people under the Article 54. He termed it as the violation of court.
Rizvi demanded immediate arrest of killers of Pabna ashram attendant.
BNP Joint-Secretary General Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Harunur Rashid, Organising Secretary Emran Saleh Prince and Shama Obayed, among others, were present in the briefing.
