Ex-President of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Mujahidul Islam Selim has said that the CPB and the Left Alliance will not take part in any election under the party government, because the ruling Awami League ( AL) government has made the entire election system a farce.
He observed that January 5, 2014 general election was mainly ‘a one-party polls’ when 153 Awami League candidates won the elections uncontested.
On the other hand, December 30, 2018 general election was ‘staged at midnight,’ he alleged.
“Now the election has become Boat’s Awami League versus Rebel’s Awami League,” he said while addressing in a public meeting organised by CPB Kishoreganj district committee.
Mujahidul Islam Selim also demanded of the government to restore voting rights and control the price hike of daily comodities.
CPB’s kishoreganj district President Abdur Rahman presided over the meeting which was held at Syed Nazrul Islam Square (Param Chattor) in the town on Saturday afternoon.
It was addressed among others by CPB central leader Advocate Enamul Haque Millath, former district CPB President Syed Nazrul Islam, Dr Enamul Idris, and district Secretary Advocate Enamul Haque.
Selim asserted that the CPB wouldn’t take part in the next parliamentary election under any party-led government. “The present government must be compelled to declare that the next general election will be held under a non-party neutral government.
In order to do this, we must have to build a united movement against the misrule of Awami League.”
Awami League ( AL) has been in power over the last 14 years, he said adding that during this long period, bureaucrats, contractors, dishonest politicians have siphoned off billions of taka from Bangladesh.
Farmers, expatriate and garment workers earn money working relentlessly, Mujahidul Islam Selim said adding that the looters are siphoning off the money from the country.
“People’s real income has declined due to price hike of essentials. The government doesn’t have any moral right to grip the power as it failed to control the the market. They must be ousted from power to protect the rights of the poor. The people want that government which will protect the interests of the common people,” he said.
The CPB leader also called upon people to be united to realise their voting rights.
