Covid positivity rate rises above 3pc

The daily test-positivity rate for Covid-19 in Bangladesh has jumped above 3% in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
The latest figures showed an infection rate of 3.14%, according to a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) press release. Till Friday, daily test-positivity remained below the 3% mark for four consecutive days.
A total of 350 new infections were reported from 11,148 samples tested in the 24-hour time frame.
At the same time, five people died across the country from the infection, taking the number of total fatalities to 8,342. The DGHS said a total of 11,022 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours for testing at 214 authorized labs across the country.
The overall infection rate in the country now stands at 13.80% from 3,933,637 tests conducted so far.
The total number of reported cases in the country stands at 543,024. Meanwhile, as many as 424 patients recovered from the contagious disease in the 24-hour period, taking the total number of recoveries to 490,892.
The country’s recovery rate now stands at 90.40%.
Of the five deaths reported on Saturday – three men and two women – all of them from Dhaka.
Four of them died while receiving treatment at hospitals, while one of them died at home.
So far, 6,314 men (75.69%) and 2,028 women (24.31%) have died of Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected stands at 1.54%.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China’s Wuhan city in late December of 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

Globally, the novel virus has infected 111,318,264 people and took lives of 2,465,368 people till Saturday afternoon, according to worldometers.
