Bangladesh reported 20 more Covid-linked deaths with 15,440 fresh cases in 24 hours till Friday morning.
The daily positivity rate rose to highest-ever 33.37 per cent from Thursday’s 31.98 per cent after testing 46,292 samples, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country logged its highest daily positivity rate at 32.55% on July 24 last year reporting 6,780 cases and 195 deaths, reports UNB.
On Thursday, the country reported 15 more Covid-linked deaths and 15,807 fresh cases. The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,308 while the caseload mounted to 1,762,771.
Among the new deceased, 12 were women and eight men.
Five deaths were reported in Dhaka division while nine in Chattogram, two each in Rajshahi and Sylhet and one each in Barishal and Mymensingh divisions.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate further declined to 1.61 per cent.
However, the recovery rate also declined to 88.63 per cent with the recovery of 1,326 more patients during the 24-hour period. Bangladesh’s total tally of Omicron cases reached 69 with the detection of five more cases till Sunday, according to GISAID, a global initiative on sharing all influenza data.

The country reported this year’s first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.

Another 1,326 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,562,369.
The latest figures put the recovery rate at 88.63 percent and the mortality rate at 1.61 percent.
Globally, over 366.58 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.63 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
