Covid deaths drop below 100 after two months

The deaths from novel coronavirus in Bangladesh have dropped below 100 after two month amid falling virus infections.
The country recorded only 80 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours as of Saturday at 8:00am, the lowest death toll in 63 days.
During the period, 3,436 people contracted the highly infectious disease taking the total number to 14,89,589, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.
Dhaka division alone saw 34 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while Chattogram division reported 21 deaths during the same time. Among the dead, 41 were male and 39 were female.
DGHS said 13.67 percent of the 25,129 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.
The recovery count rose to 14,09,231 after another 4,861 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 94.61 percent recovered, while 1.74 percent died.
Earlier, the highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10). On August 5, the same number of people had died of the virus.
The health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8, 2020.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 4.5 million lives and infected over 216 million people across the world till Saturday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
