The leaders of the Dhaka Bar Association on Thursday decided to disburse interest free loan to its 5485 members in need to tackle the financial pressure raised during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The decision was taken in an executive body’s meeting held on Thursday at the Dhaka Bar premises.
Dhaka Bar Association Secretary Advocate Md Hossain Ali Khan Hassan said, “More than 7500 members of the bar applied for loans through emails. After scrutinity, we have finalised about 5485 applications for loan.”
The lawyers who are practicing at least for five years will get highest Tk 20,000, those who have been practicing experience for six to 25 years will get Tk 25,000 and who have gathered experience for more than 25 years will get Tk 30,000 as per the decision, Advocate Hossain Ali Khan Hassan also said.
“Disbursement of the money will start from next Monday. The loan receivers will have to repay the loan in two installments by 2021,” said Advocate Md Iqbal Hossain, President of the Dhaka Bar Association.
The Bar President said, “We have taken the initiatives to give interest free loans considering the economic hardship situation of the lawyers amid coronavirus pandemic.”
