The death toll in Bangladesh due to the novel coronavirus exceeded 21,000 as of Monday morning, with 15,989 more infections and 246 fatalities in the last 24 hours, according to official figures.
This is the seventh consecutive day that Bangladesh has reported more than 200 Covid-19 deaths.
The official figures showed the coronavirus killed 21,162 people and infected 12,80,317 so far. Bangladesh crossed the 20,000-mark on July 28.
In last 24 hours till 8am Monday, Dhaka counted 76 deaths, the highest among the eight divisions, followed by Chittagong with 64 fatalities. Khulna division reported 30 deaths while Rajshahi reported 22, Barisal 16, Rangpur and Sylhet 14 each, and Mymensingh 10.
In new infections, Dhaka logged 7,660 cases, the highest among the divisions, followed by Chittagong with 3,315 and Khulna 1,373.
Besides, the country reported 29.91 per cent COVID-19 positive cases as 53,462 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning 86.60 percent recovered, while 1.65 percent died.
The recovery count rose to 11,08,748 after another 15,482 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.65%.
Till Monday, a total of 1,773 people had received the second dose of the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, taking the total to 4,299.859.
Meanwhile, a total of 5,820,033 people have received the first dose of the vaccine till now.
Additionally, 225,525 people received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine during the same period, taking the total to 2,473,631 till now, while 49,558 people received the second dose.
Meanwhile, a total of 50,235 people have received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. On the other hand, 786 people received a second dose of the vaccine till 8am Monday, taking the total to 2,250.
At the same time, 76,544 people received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine, taking the total number to 764,225.
The health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8, 2020.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 4.2 million lives and had infected nearly 200 million people across the world till Monday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 179.76 million people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
