Covid-19 cases reach 98,937 with 14 afresh in Rajshahi division

Fourteen more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in five districts of the division on Thursday, taking the caseload to 98,937 since the pandemic began in March last year.
However, the new positive figure shows a little-bit of an escalating trend compared to the previous day’s figure, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health, adding that Wednesday’s infection figure was 12.
Besides, on October 20, the infection figure was just four, which was the lowest-ever in the division since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country.
Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 95,099 in the division after five patients were discharged from the hospitals on the same day.
The death toll reached 1,673, including 685 in Bogura, 320 in Rajshahi with 202 in its city, and 173 in Natore as no new death was reported during the period, Dr Talukder added.
Besides, all the positive cases of Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under treatment while 22,997 were kept in isolation units of different dedicated hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 19,402 have been released.
Meanwhile, 15 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 16 others were released from isolation during the same time. Of the 14 new cases, five were detected in Rajshahi city, followed by four in Sirajganj, two each in Naogaon and Pabna and one in Bogura districts.
With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 28,104 in Rajshahi, including 22,666 in city, 5,673 in Chapainawabganj, 6,407 in Naogaon, 8,386 in Natore, 4,624 in Joypurhat, 21,624 in Bogura, 11,401 in Sirajganj and 12,718 in Pabna.
A total of 1,13,829 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
Of them, 1,12,699 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
