Bangladesh recorded 74 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike, raising the total number of deaths to 9,521, according to the official figures.
The country recorded 6,854 Covid-19 cases during the same period. with the latest, the total number of cases rose to 6,66,132, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a press release on Thursday (April 8, 2021).
Among the deaths, 48 are males while 26 are female. The death rate is 1.43 percent while the rate of the cured is 84.82.
A total of 33,193 samples were tested at 227 authorized laboratories across the country during the time, the press release added.
In the past 24 hours, 3,391 people were discharged from the hospital, raising the total number of cured to 5,65,030.
Earlier on Wednesday, 7,626 COVID-19 patients were diagnosed while 63 deaths related to the disease were reported.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
