Court records statements of former CJ SK Sinha’s brother, nephew

Elder brother and two nephews of former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar (SK) Sinha yesterday submitted their statements as prosecution witnesses under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in a case against SK Sinha filed on the charge of amassing wealth illegally.
The three prosecution witnesses are Surendra Kumar Sinha’s elder brother Narendra Kumar Sinha, nephews Shankhajit Sinha and Sujon Kumar Sinha.
Of the three, Narendra submitted his statement in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka while Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid recorded his statement. Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim recorded the statement of Shankhajit and Magistrate Mehedi Hasan recorded Sujon’s statement.
Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Com-mission (ACC) Md Gulshan Anwar filed the case against SK Sinha for amassing wealth worth Taka 7.14 crore in his brother and nephews names misusing his official capacity and transferring and handing over the money on October 10, 2021.
Monday (May 16) was fixed for submission of report in the case, but the anti-graft body ACC did not submit any report. Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayesh then set June 16 for submitting the report.
According to the case documents, the SK Sinha during his tenure as the Chief Justice took a plot from Rajuk in Uttara Residential Area.
