Court accepts charges against Oishee, 3 others

A Dhaka court on Tuesday took into cognizance the charge sheet against four accused, including Oishee Rahman, in a case over the murder of her parents Special Branch (SB) Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman.
Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court accepted the charge sheet on Tuesday and also passed order to forward the case to the Metropolitan Session’s Judge’s Court for trial.
Oishee’s lawyer Mahbub Hassan Rony said he would try to prove her innocence during the trial.
Besides, Oishee, other accused in the case are her friends Mizanur Rahman Rony and Asaduzzaman Jony and their housemaid Khadiza Khatun Sumi, 11.
All the accused were produced to the court during the hearing on accepting the charge sheet. However, juvenile Sumi’s trial will be held in the juvenile court as per law.
Oishee’s parents, Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Begum, were found stabbed to death in their apartment in Dhaka’s Chamelibagh on August 16 last year.
Oishee, who went missing after the gruesome murder, surrendered to police two days later with housemaid Sumi. Police then arrested housemaid Sumi and Oishee’s friends Rony and Jony. On August 16 last year, police recovered the decomposed bodies of Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Begum from their rented house at Chamelibagh in the capital.
On March 9, police submitted a charge sheet to the court accusing Oishee and two of her friends for killing her parents, while a separate charge sheet was filed against housemaid Sumi. According to the charge sheet, Sumi had aided Oishee in the killing. Oishee had also discussed the plan with her friends before the killing.
Police confirmed Oishee’s involvement in the murder by conducting DNA test of blood marks on ornaments and a bloodstained dress she left at home.
Oishee mixed 60 sleeping pills with coffee to sedate her parents and then stabbed them to death, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police DB Inspector Abu Al Khair Matabbar, in charge of investigation of the case. Oishee also made confessional statement to the court, saying she murdered her parents, Khair said.
