A Dhaka court yesterday admitted a complaint filed against six anchors of Islamic programme aired on radio and telecast by private TV channels in connection with the murder of Maulana Nurul Islam Farooqi.
Bangladesh Islami Front’s student front Islami Chhatra Sena’s Dhaka unit secretary Imran Hossain Tushar lodged the complaint with the CMM Court on Thursday, accusing six Islamic show anchors. They are Tarek Munawar, Arakanullah Haruni and Kamaluddin Zafrey, Khalid Saifullah Bakshi, Kazi Ibrahim and Mokhtar Ahmed. The case statement says that the six might have their hands in the Faruqi murder.
Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court ordered a joint investigation into the cases and the complaint be attached to the case filed by Faruqi’s family in connection with the killing.
In a media briefing on Wednesday, Faruqi’s family requested police to add more charges, including murder and a conspiracy to commit the crime, in the case the family had filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Maulana Faruqi’s party Islami Front (IF) opposes Jamaat-e-Islam and Hefazat-e-Islam in politicxs. Chhatra Sena leader Tushar pleaded to the court on Thursday to include the same charges in the case. He also urged the court to add two more charges, incitement to commit a crime and concealing evidence.
Tushar said at the hearing that police prepared the case details and the victim’s youngest son Faisal Faruqi signed the relevant paper in ‘a state of shock’. According to him, the family is being threatened not to come to the court, which led him to lodge the complaint.
On August 27 (Wednesday) miscreants slaughtered Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi at his East Razabazar residence in the city.
