A down-dusk countrywide hartal has been called for Sunday in protest against the killing of Moulana Nurul Islam Faruqui, a presenter of Channel i`s Islamic program. Syed Bahadur Shah Mozaddedi Al Abedi, chairman of Islamic Front Bangladesh and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, announced the hartal program on Wednesday midnight. Meanwhile, a hartal program is being observed in the port city of Chittagong today (Thursday). Immediate after hearing the killing news of Nurul Islam Faruqui, members of Islamic Front Bangladesh and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat demonstrated in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Bogra, Sylhet and Rangpur. In some pleases, they vandalized some vehicles. They also demonstrated in capital’s Mohammadpur, Uttara, Farmgate, Motijheel and Mirpur areas and vandalized some vehicles. Unidentified miscreants slaughtered Moulana Nurul Islam Faruqui at his East Rajabazar residence in the capital on Wednesday night. He was also the ‘Khatib’ of the High Court Mazar mosque. Deceased’s family sources said two unknown youths came to him around 7:30pm and sought suggestion over performing Hajj. Later, a group of six to seven miscreants joined them and tied up the other family members. They also demanded Tk. 50,000 from him.
