Country receives 715 .24 m in remittance on July 1-22

The country received $715.24 million in remittance during the first 22 days of the current month of July.
Bangladesh Bank statistics show that four state-owned commercial banks-Agrani, Janata, Rupali and Sonali-received $229.79 million from expatriate Bangladeshis while four state-owned specialised banks got $7.11 million.
The maximum remittance came through private commercial banks as they received $464.44 million while the nine foreign banks $9.89 million.
Among the private commercial banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) led the remittance earning as it received $176.84 million, followed by National Bank Limited (NBL) with $29.72 million.
Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $93.39 million, Sonali Bank $63.6 million, Janata Bank $60.15 million and Rupali Bank $12.65 million.
Among other private banks which are in leading positions in earning remittance include Dutch-Bangla Bank ($29.34mn), Bank Asia ($26.64mn), Pubali Bank ($25.94mn), Uttara ($21.45mn), Mercantile Bank ($16.94mn), Prime Bank ($14.5mn), NCC Bank ($14.2mn), Brac Bank ($12.08mn), and Trust Bank ($10.85mn).
As in previous days, the NRB banks showed a poor performance in receiving remittance although the government allowed the establishment of these banks with high hopes in this regard.
Of the three NRB banks, NRB Bank received no remittance while NRB Commercial Bank $0.09 million and NRB Global Bank $0.06 million in remittance from non-resident Bangladeshis during the period. There are some other private banks which also show poor performance in remittance earning during the period as they received below two million include Farmers Bank ($0.09mn), SBAC Bank ($0.53mn), One Bank ($0.48mn), Modhumati Bank ($0.05mn), Midland Bank ($0.06mn), Meghna Bank ($0.1mn), ICB Islamic Bank ($0.01mn), Exim Bank ($1.28mn), IFIC Bank ($1.89mn) and Shahjalal Islami Bank ($1.08mn).
