Kishoreganj District Administration, Primary and Mass Education Department arranged a discussion, rally and cultural function marking the International Literacy Day on Sunday.
A discussion meeting on “Literacy in many language will guarantee a better life” was held at Kishoreganj Govt Boys’ High School Auditorium on Sunday morning. Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury attended as Chief Guest while ADC (Education & ICT) Md. Habibur Rahman presided over .
It was addressed among others by District Education Officer Zulfiqur Hossain, DPO Subrata Kumar Bonik, PTI Superintended Noor Mohammad, Technical School, College Principal Rafiqul Islam, Non -Formal Education Assistant Director Abdul Malek, Women Leader Bilkis Begum and Assistant Professor Samiul Hoque Mollah.
DC Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury said , the government is committed to ensure education for all to develop skilled manpower.
Literacy is a Digital World is the global there of this year which is targeted to drive the global education 2030 agenda under SDGs.

Gouripur( Mymensingh) Correspondent reports: The International Literacy Day was observed in a befitting manner on Sunday at Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh district under the theme “Literacy and Multilingualism”.
To mark the Day, a colourful rally was brought out in Gouripur town, organised by the Upazila administration and Gouripur Upazla Education Office. A discussion was also held at Upazila Public Hall with Farhana Karim, UNO of Gouripur upazila in the chair while Md. Moffazzal Hossain Khan, Upazila Chairman was present as Chief Guest and other prominent persons were present and addressed the audience. Monika Parvin, Upazila Education Officer presented the keynote paper at the discussion
BSS from Rangpur says: The country has achieved laudable success in reducing illiteracy rate through implementing various non formal education programmes on way to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Officials and educationists expressed the view on Sunday at a post-rally discussion arranged at Town Hall here in observance of the International Literacy Day- 2019 with the theme of “Literacy and Multilingualism.”
The district administration and District Non Formal Education Bureau organised the discussion after bringing out a rally on the city streets aiming at creating public awareness to turn illiterate people into skilled human resources.
Officials, employees and executives of different government departments and NGOs, teachers, students, civil society members, religious leaders and local elite participated in the rally.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shukria Pervin in the chair.
Additional Police Super (promoted to Police Super) Maruf Hassan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy, District Education Officer Roksana Begum, District Primary Education Officer Md. Shahidul Islam all spoke on the occasion as special guests.
Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam discussed on importance of observance of the International Literacy Day.
Shukria Pervin discussed various government programmes taken to provide literacy knowledge, informal education, technical and vocational trainings to illiterate population to turn them into skilled human resources.
“The government has achieved admirable success in last ten years in raising literary rate of the population to 73 percent on way to attain 100 percent literacy rate by 2030,’ she said.
The speakers stressed on proper implementation of the national education policy to build an illiteracy-free country through spreading education among illiterate population.
The chief guest called for making the programmes taken by the government successful through providing literacy knowledge and trainings to illiterate population to achieve the SDGs on way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: The International Literacy Day 2019 was observed here as elsewhere in the country on Sunday in a befitting manner with the specific call of attaining cent percent literacy for overall development of the country.
District Administration organised a colourful rally, discussion meeting and film show amidst huge public gathering in the city in observance of the day.
Starting from the premises of Monibazar, the rally marched through some of the city streets before being ended at Shilpakala Academy. A discussion meeting was held there highlighting significance of the day.
“Literacy and Multilingualism” is this year’s theme which means literacy in many languages will guarantee a better life.
Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Jakir Hossain addressed the meeting as the chief guest while retired Principal of Shahmukhdum Degree College Dr Tasiqul Islam spoke as focal person with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shariful Haque in the chair.
Dr Islam narrated the aspects of attaining total literacy and put forward a set of recommendations on how to achieve the cherished goal.
District Primary Education Officer Abdus Salam and Assistant Director of Bureau of Non-formal Education Anwar Kamal also spoke on the occasion.
Jakir Hossain identically said total literacy is the precondition to make people skillful human resources along with freeing the nation from unemployment problem.
He said primary teachers and social workers can play a vital role in gearing up the literacy campaign throughout the country to achieve the millennium development goals.
Hossain also stressed creating more awareness among the people to make the literacy campaign a success.
The discussion was followed by a film-show focusing on importance of literacy in the national and social life.
