Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said if allegation of canal grabbing against any councillor is proved, he or she will lose the post in the city corporation instantly.
He said it while talking to reporters after inaugurating newly dredged Khidir Khal in the Uttara Sector-11 area on Friday.
In addition, Mayor Atiqul Islam announced to gift one tree sapling along with the birth certificate from North City Corporation (DNCC).
When we will distribute the birth certificates among the dwellers, we hope to give them each one tree sapling with birth certificate on the occasion of Mujib year, Mayor said.
If a tree is planted in the name of every child, then there will be no shortage of oxygen in this Capital city.
“Today we are getting oxygen because our grandfathers planted trees.” We are still alive because our grandparents planted trees. So we will plant trees wherever we can find the space, mayor further added.
Besides, on Friday morning, about 1800 volunteers began to work to make Mohammadpur’s Ward No. 31 garbage-free.
At that time all the roads of the ward were marched to collect all garbages and thereby cleaned.
When the mayor was asked about different government offices, including those in Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), to change their approach, mayor said, “You can’t continue allotting plots without keeping space for dumping yards, you can’t allot plots on canal land.”
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza, Chief Estate Officer Md Mozammel Haque and councillor of Ward-51 Mohammad Sharifur Rahman were present on the occasion, among others.
Earlier on March 16, mayor found the evidence that the canal lost its connectivity in the middle due to an illegal structure. On that day, he demolished the structure with the help of local lawmaker, ward councillor and leaders and activists of Awami League.
