News Desk :
Dr Bijon Kumar Sil, Head of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra team which invented Covid-19 testing kits, on Thursday said the novel coronavirus is now creating kidney and abdominal problems than that of lungs.
Sil, who is also the lead virology scientist of Gono Biswavidyalya, thinks that there is a possibility of getting rid of widespread coronavirus infection before the winter.
Asked about the coronavirus situation prevailing in the country, Dr Sil said, “I think that coronavirus infection is gradually entering the rural areas in Bangladesh. The rate of infection is low in Dhaka. Since people have left for their village homes to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha, the virus is also heading toward that direction. This possibility is very high.” Gonoshasthaya Kendra invented antigen and antibody kits for quick testing of coronavirus infection and antibody at the beginning of March when the infection had just started. Subsequently, they succeeded to test the efficacy of their kits at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Finally, their kits didn’t get approval from the BSMMU. Since then one and a half months have passed. However, the Ganashasthaya Kendra has been continuing its efforts.
According to the new guidelines framed by the Drug Administration, some equipment are needed to test the effectiveness of kits.
Dr Bijon Kumar Sil said the Gonoshasthaya Kendra has already received no objection certificate (NOC) from the government to import those equipment.
“It requires 15 days to import those equipment. Afterward, we will submit our kits to the BSMMU again to test their efficacy,” he said.
