Coronavirus death toll passes 1,500

The death toll from coronavirus has reached 1,502 in Bangladesh after 38 more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours till Monday.
Of the new deceased, 33 are men while five are women.
Besides, 3,480 more infections were registered during the period, taking the confirmed cases in the country to 115,786.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.
She said 1,678 more patients recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 46,755.
Prof Nasima said 15,555 samples were tested in 62 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 630,719 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 22.37 percent, she said.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.38 while the mortality rate is 1.33 percent.
On Sunday, Bangladesh recorded 39 deaths from coronavirus and 3,531 cases.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has stood at 470,703 as of Monday morning.
Besides, it has so far infected 9,046,215 people around the world, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 3,737,153 patients, 3,682,419 are in mild condition while 54,734 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 4,838,359 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,356,657 and 122,247 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,086,990 cases and 50,659 deaths.
