Coronavirus death toll crosses 2,000

Health authorities on Sunday confirmed the death of 55 more people due to deadly COVID-19 in a span of 24 hours which mounted the death toll in Bangladesh to 2,052.
Another 2,738 new patients were diagnosed with coronavirus during the period, raising the total number to 1,62,417.
The daily infection rate on Sunday was recorded 19.57 percent.
Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin.
In the last 24 hours, 68 laboratories across the country tested 13,988 samples, she said adding, “So far, 8,46,062 tests have been conducted.”
Against the number of total tests since March 8, the infection rate has been 19.20 percent in the country, said Dr Nasima.
Across the country, 1,904 more patients made recovery, she said adding that 72,625 people have so far recovered from the disease.
Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 44.72 percent in the country while the mortality rate 1.26 percent.
Among the new deceased, 37 were male and 18 female, she said. Since March 11, some 1,624 male and 428 female died of Covid-19 in the country.
Dr Nasima presented the number of deaths in each age group since March 11.
Among the new deceased, one was between 11 and 20 years, three between 31 and 40 years, 17 between 41 and 50, 13 between 51 and 60, nine between 61 and 70 and 12 were between 71 and 80 years.
In the last 24 hours, 19 patients died in Dhaka division, 13 in Chattogram division, one each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions , six in Khulna division, five in Barishal division, two in Sylhet division an eight in Rangpur division.
According to DGHS data, 13 of the total deceased were below 10 years, 24 were between 11 and 20 years, 70 between 21 and 30, 151 between 31 and 40, 311 between 41 and 50, 593 between 51 and 60, and 890 people were above 60 years.
“Since March 11, 1060 people have died in Dhaka division, 634 in Chattogram division, 102 in Rajshahi division, 88 in Khulna division, 72 in Barishal division, 86 in Sylhet division, 61 in Rangpur division, and 49 in Mymensingh division,” Dr Nasima added.
In the last 24 hours, she said, 41 people died at hospitals across the country while 14 at their homes.
New 717 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours and 764 released during the period.
Another 449 people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 242 released and currently, 16,449 people are in isolation.
During the period, another 2,887 people were home and institutionally quarantined and 2,535 released.
At present, 64,502 people are quarantined across the country.
