In the wake of the worsening corona epidemic situation across the country, emergency corona vaccination for workers at the Rooppur nuclear power plant under construction began on Wednesday. Architect Yafes Osman, Minister of Science and Technology, inaugurated the `Sputnik V’ vaccination program in collaboration with the Russian government.
“Russia has been helping us since the liberation war,” he told The New Nation. The Russian government has extended a helping hand in vaccinating the Russians as well as the Bangladeshis working in the project without any hesitation. He congratulated and thanked the Russian government for this, and said that 650 members of the Atomic Energy Commission working on the project have been vaccinated. The Russian government has also been asked to gradually vaccinate the Bengali-our boys working in various contractors of the project. We will also cooperate if needed. This vaccination will increase the morale of all and the work of the project will move forward faster. The Minister also thanked the Upazila Health Officer Dr. Asma Khan and his team for their cooperation in administering the vaccine.
Project Director. Shaukat Akbar said, everyone working in the project is being brought under the coroner’s vaccine. Vaccination of foreigners, including Russians, is already in its final stages. Start vaccinating Bangladeshis today. One hundred percent of Bangladeshis working on the project will also be vaccinated in phases.
Ashraful Islam, site engineer of the project, said that the Russian ‘Sputnik V’ vaccine is being given on priority basis.
Confirming the immunization of 52 people on the first day, he said that first the Bengali doctors-nurses and the civil engineers involved in 24-hour civil construction work were vaccinated. He added that tickers are arranged by contacting the ministry and registering in the government’s security apps.
Alexei Dairy, vice president of Russian Atomstroy Exports, Russian doctor Morozov, and Ruhul Quddus, site in-charge of the project, were also present.
Context: Due to the recent deterioration of the corona situation, all the locals and foreigners working on the Rooppur project have been brought under the corona vaccine on an urgent basis. An isolation center has also been opened in a multi-storey building in Green City and more stringent disciplinary measures have been taken to ensure compliance with the health rules for workers in the project area.
