Sagar Biswas :The Police department has launched an all-out crackdown against its corrupt members who are allegedly involved in illegal Yaba trade and human trafficking.Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque on Wednesday issued an order to indentify the corrupt members in the police force and bring them to book without wasting any time. The order copies have been sent to the chiefs of all police units, including DB, SB, CID, SWAT, traffic, highway, railway, river, tourist and industrial, the police headquarters sources said. They said the decision came following the arrest of Assistant Sub-Inspector [ASI] Mahfuzur Rahman along with 680,000 yaba tablets by Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] from Lalpur area in Feni recently.Detailing the initiatives, the IGP said, “The police do not patronise any criminal. We won’t tolerate any crime committed by the police members. If anyone is entangled with any crime, we will treat him like a criminal. In this regard, we always follow zero tolerance policy.””I’ve ordered to arrest the suspected policemen involved in Yaba trade and other crimes,” he said. As per order of the police chief, a three-member high-powered committee headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police of Criminal Investigation Department Saiful Haque has been constituted to investigate the incident of Yaba smuggling involving ASI Mahfuzur Rahman.Other members of the committee are: Assistant Inspector General of Police [PHQ] Kazi Zia Uddin, Senior ASP [Discipline and Professional Standard] Abdus Salam and ASP PHQ of Feni district. The committee has been asked to submit report within 10 working days and take legal action against ASI Mahfuz and his accomplices. Apart from it, another three-member high-powered probe committee has been formed headed by Additional DIG of Special Branch Towfique Mahbub Chowdhury to investigate human trafficking, drug trade and other sensational crimes.Other members of the committee are: Special Superintendent of Police [CID] Rezaul Haider and Additional Superintendent of Police [Discipline and Professional Standard] Mizanur Rahman. The committee will collect intelligence information about the involvement of police officials in any sort of crime.There is widespread allegation that some members of the law enforcers are involved with human smuggling instead of taking actions. They facilitate the illegal practice in exchange of taking huge amount of money from the traffickers.
