Cop, female teacher on polls duty killed in road crashes

A policeman and a female assistant teacher of a primary school on election duty were killed in separate road accidents in Sadar Dakkhin upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Kamrun Nahar, an assistant teacher at Chashapara Government Primary School and wife of Mohammad Selim of Keshanpara village, constable Hasan, 35.
A CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying Nahar overturned on Comilla-Laksam road at Ratanpur around 7:30am after a truck crashed into it, leaving Nahar dead on the spot.
Nahar was going to Alampur Government Primary School to discharge her duty as a polling
officer in the upazila polls when the tragedy struck her.
Meanwhile, constable Hasan was killed as a pickup turned turtle at Subarnapur around 7pm while he was going to the city with election materials from Sahapur Primary School and Bandishahi High School centres A presiding officer, three assistant presiding officers, a female polling officer, five other policemen and eight Ansar members were also injured in the accident, said district election officer Rashedul Islam.
The injured were rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
