Speakers at a programme called for proper coordination among different ministries of the government for building a child-friendly atmosphere for protecting the rights of children.
Taking necessary steps for sustainable rehabilitation of child trafficking victims and enforcement of Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act-2012 will also help protect the child rights, they said.
Coordination between the government and non-government sector on the issue will also help achieve the objective, they said.
They remarked addressing a views exchange meeting ‘on the Draft of National Plan of Action (2018-2022) for Preventing Human Trafficking’ between the concerned ministry and the Civil Society at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Thursday.
On behalf of Prevention of Child Trafficking through Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN) consortium, INCIDIN Bangladesh, an anti-trafficking organization, organized the programme.
Gaziuddin Mohammad Munir, deputy secretary of Women and Children Affairs Ministry and Board Member of South Asia Initiative to End Violence Against Children (SAIEVAC), an affiliated body of SAARC, attended it as the chief guest.
AKM Masud Ali, executive director of INCIDIN Bangladesh, presented the keynote paper, while advocate Rafiqual Islam Khan, Coordinator of INCIDIN, moderated the session.
In his address, Mohammad Munir assured of providing support from his ministry for implementing the National Plan of Action.
The speakers called for implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals-5, which stressed on ensuring the rights of women and children.
They laid emphasis on strengthening the SAIEVAC’s current activities, which include halting all types of violence (corporal punishment, child trafficking and sexual exploitation) against children.
Representatives from different government departments and NGOs participated in the prorgramme.
