Coordination of grassroots people’s services stressed

Speakers at a discussion observed that all the existing services being delivered towards the grassroots peoples should be more coordinated and accelerated for their empowerment coupled with improving living and livelihood condition.
They viewed various government and non-government organizations are now implementing different projects for public welfare. So, there is no alternative to contribute to the empowerment of local citizens through more democratic, transparent, inclusive and effective local government system.
The observation came at a daylong workshop on the activities of Local
Governance Support Project (LGSP-2) at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner on Thursday. Local Government Division is implementing the project with financial support of World Bank.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin addressed the workshop as chief guest with Deputy Director of Local Government Division Fazley Rabbi in the chair.
During his keynote presentation, Abu Hena Mostofa Kalam, District
Facilitator of LGSP, focused on awareness of local population of their rights, roles and responsibilities and orienting local governance issues to media people and local government institutions.
He also discussed various other matters like contribute to the government initiatives and further collaborations among the Government and NGOs interventions towards uplifting the local people elaborately.
In his remarks, Kazi Ashraf Uddin mentioned that many of the social
problems like early marriage, polygamy, drug-addiction, dowry, gender discrimination and violence against women could be reduced to a greater extent through active participation of public representatives.
He underscored the need for ensuring good governance in the local
government institutions to make those fully functional, democratic and transparent entities for welfare of the grassroots people.
Digital Innovation Fair ends
A two-day “Rajshahi Divisional Digital Innovation Fair 2016” ended on Rajshahi College playground in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
In collaboration with ICT ministry and Access to Information (A2I) project of Prime Minister’s Office, Divisional Administration organised the fair.
Latest ICT products, multi-media classroom, mobile banking and e-learning items were put on display in around 58 stalls.
Project Director of A2I Programme Kabir Bin Anwar addressed the closing session as the chief guest with Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi Helaluddin Ahmed in the chair.
Additional Commissioner Munir Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Ashraf Uddin and Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman also spoke.
Chief Guest Anwar Bin Kabir said the government has been working sincerely for reaching all services to the doorsteps of the people in a hassle-free manner. The common people have started getting digital services like e-governance, e- education, e-agriculture, e-health and other e-services at the union, upazila and district levels.
He also said the digitisation of both public and private services would lead the country to achieve double digit growth within the next few years. The technological advancement in Bangladesh is increasing day by day and young generation can make it more rapid.
