Ekattorer Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee President Shahriar Kabir on Friday urged the government to take coordinated steps to get global recognition for the Genocide Day.
“It would be possible to resist ill attempts of those who distort history of Liberation War in 1971 through the observance the Genocide Day (March 25),” he said this on Friday while addressing a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity.
“The new generation will know the sacrifice of our freedom fighters for establishing a secular and democratic country through the observance of the day at the state-level,” he added.
Ekattorer Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee Advisors Justice Shamsul Huda and Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Vice President Professor Dr Muntasir Mamun, Shaheed Jaya (widow of Liberation War martyr), Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury, Syed Mahbubur Rahman and martyr’s daughter Dr Nujhat Chowdhury Shampa, among others, were present at the press conference.
Urging the government to take coordinated steps for international recognition of Genocide Day, Kabir said “We should send formal requests to the different heads of government so that they can raise the issue to their parliaments.”
He hoped that the countries, which stood beside Bangladesh during the Liberation War, would pass the bill in their respective parliaments.
Kabir urged the authorities concerned to create more awareness in European, South and North America, Australia and Asian countries.
Criticizing BNP’s comments on the number of martyrs in Liberation war, he said BNP wants to use the genocide issue politically.
