Coordinated efforts for building blindness free BD stressed

Health experts at a post-rally discussion here yesterday stressed for coordinated efforts of all concerned stakeholders at the government, non- government and private sectors for building a blindness free Bangladesh.
The discussion was organised at the hall room of Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Office in the city in observance of the World Sight Day- 2014 with Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Mozammel Hossain in the chair.
Rangpur Civil Surgeon Office in association with BRAC and other associate organisations, involved with implementation of the Vision Project Bangladesh, arranged various programmes including colourful rally in observance of the day.
A large number of people, including eye care service providers, eye specialists, officials, employees, professionals, socio-cultural, human rights and NGO activists, children, students, teachers, adolescents and elite took part in the rally.
Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Abdul Mazid, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Salah Uddin Mahmud, Rangpur Regional Manager of BRAC Ali Ahmed, its District Manager Shyamol Kumar and Regional manager Ataur Rahman and Executive Director of Community Eye Care and Research Centre Mohammad Safiullah addressed.
The speakers narrated various reasons behind blindness, its national and global situations, and the ongoing steps to prevent cornea and refraction related blindness of the children.
They put emphasis on GO-NGO and private sector collaboration in creating adequate social awareness about the reasons behind blindness and providing necessary medicare services and treatments to the people in building a blindness free Bangladesh.
