Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Saturday expressed his concern over the poor conviction rate in the cases filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and underscored the need for finding out the root cause.
“Arrange a workshop to find out the cause. If necessary, I will attend the programme,” said the Chief Justice at a view exchange meeting in the Supreme
Court Auditorium this afternoon.
The Supreme Court and rights body Manusher Jonno Foundation jointly organised the programme.
About the conviction in rape cases, the Chief Justice said, necessary medical test reports in this connection are not sent timely, creating scopes for acquittal.
“There will be no scope for acquittal if the medical test report with strong evidence are placed in the a court timely,” Hossain said.
