Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has promised effective measures to keep prices of es¬sentials under control during the upcoming Ramadan. ‘Today we have held talks with chairmen of several big business groups. They have assured us of keeping prices of essentials within the reach of people not only during Ra¬madan but throughout the year,” he told reporters after the meeting on Monday. The minister said essen¬tials would be supplied on demand during Ramadan. •We have sufficient stock; there is no reason for price rise. We] will rein the mar¬ket at any rate during Ra¬madan,” he said. We would urge the im-porters and suppliers to en¬ure that people can boy es¬sentials within their pur¬chase power during Ra¬madan since their demands are moderate,” Ahmed said. The minister asked the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh to be vigilant to prevent any artificial crisis of essentials. lie also directed law en-forcement agencies to make sure essentials are supplied without hassle.
