State Minister for Information Dr Md Murad Hassan on Tuesday said the contribution of Syed Ashraful Islam towards bringing Awami League to its current position from the disastrous time during the caretaker governmentis unforgettable.
“Syed Ashraful Islam took charge as Acting General Secretary of the party as the then General Secretary Abdul Jalil got arrested and many were supporting the ‘Minus Sheikh Hasina Formula’. He served Awami League as General Secretary from 2009 to 2016. He was well known as a selfless personality in Bangladesh’s politics,” he said.
The state minister was addressing a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Academy at National Press Club, marking the 2nd death anniversary of Syed Ashraful Islam.
“Syed Ashraf became one of the dependable vanguards of Sheikh Hasina, coming from the grassroots through the politics of Bangladesh Chhatra League. He was an altruistic philosopher of Bangabandhu’s politics,” Murad further said.
Presided over by Bangabandhu Academy President Nazmul Haque, the discussion was also addressed by Dhaka South city Awami League President Abu Ahmed Mannafi, AdvBalramPoddar, MA Karim, Minhaj Uddin Mintu and Humayun Kabir Miji, among others.
