Container handling charge up by 34 per cent

The Inland Container Depot (ICD) owner has increased the import container handle charge by 34 per cent as the impact of fuel price hike.
Inland Container owner organization Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association (BICDA) said that 34 per cent charge has been increased to import container handle charge from August 11.
They said a charge of Tk 12, 830 increased instead of Tk 9, 504 for a 20 feet long container and Tk 14, 857 for a 40 feet long container has been fixed instead of Tk 11,005.
However, including survey and port gate charge fees, this cost has been increased from Tk 9,754 to Tk 13,080 for 20 feet long container loaded with imported goods and Tk 15,107 for 40 feet long container from Tk 11,255.
Over the issue, BICDA’s General Secretary Ruhul Amin Sikder said that additional handling charges have been executed on import containers. Not yet implemented in case of export containers. May be it will be effective from August 20. There is no option but to increase the handling charge due to the increase in fuel oil.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has requested by issuing a statement to BICDA for not increasing the inland container handle charge.
Statement said that the country’s garment sector is in various crises. Garment owners will be in trouble if container handle charges are increased. On behalf of BGMEA, in order to achieve the capacity of export trade, the decision to increase the tariff has been called for until the approval of the Tariff Committee formed by the Ministry of Shipping.
