Two unidentified members of an extortionist gang shot a construction worker, failing to collect demanded toll from the engineer of the firm in the city’s Tejkunipara on Wednesday. The injured person has been identified as Harun-ur-Rashid, 45, police said.
Tejgaon Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam confirmed the matter and said that two armed criminals entered an under-construction building at 215, Tejkunipara about 8:30am and looked for engineer Sohel. At one stage, they shot Rashid and left the scene immediately.
The extortionists had been demanding money from Avenue Builder owner Ali Asgar and its engineer Sohel for last few months, police and local sources said.
Avenue Building adviser Wahiduzzaman said that he had no idea about the reason behind the gun-attack.
Wahiduzzaman took the injured to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
