Construction work of the second tube of the Bangabandhu Tunnel at the bottom of the River Karnafuli has started.
Engineer Harunur Rashid, director of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel project said, “Construction work on the second tube started on the Anwara side on Saturday.”
“This tunnel will be constructed 12 meters away from the first tube constructed from the Chattogram side,” he added.
In addition to the 3.4 kilometre-long main tunnel, a 5.35 kilometer connecting road at the Patenga and Anwara ends, and an overbridge of 727 meters at the Anwara end are being constructed for the project at a cost of about Tk10,000 crore.
