Minister of Road Transports and Bridges Obaidul Quader MP said the construction works of the proposed two kilometer long tunnel under the Karnaphuli River will begin very soon.
A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect will be signed with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) very soon, the Minister added.
“A Chinese company in cooperation with local engineers has already completed the feasibility study at a cost of Tk 12 crore” the Minister said while inaugurating a daylong seminar on “Bangladesh India Connectivity :Opportunity and Achievement” jointly organized by Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and industries in cooperation with Indian High Commission, held at Hotel Agrabad conference hall on Wednesday..
Dr Mainul Islam, Department of Economics, University of Chittagong University presented the key note paper at the seminar.Speaking at the function the Minister said the government is trying to develop people to people relations between India and Bangladesh.Referring to India’s interest to develop relations with Bangladesh, Quader said the Indian business leaders said both countries would benefit economically after reducing the trade gap.”We are considering to work jointly for removal of all trade barriers including trade imbalance and for achieving high GDP for both the countries”, Pankaj Saran, said while addressing the function as the special guest.
The Indian High Commissioner said the Government of India is ready to develop socio economic relations with its neighboring countries particularly Bangladesh.
