Jhenaidah Correspondent :
Tug of war among the contractors has hanged the construction work of Jhenaidah 250-bed General Hospital in balance.
Works against the invited tender for Tk 42 cr could not be started in past 10 moths, said some of the contractors and roads and highways department office sources.
The sources said, a tender for the construction work of for Taka 42 crore for the hospital was invited in April last year against the World Bank financed project. A contractor had alleged that the rate was cut in the tender process. Further, some politically involved some people demanded the share of the profit from the tender. The matter is under the decision of the concern ministry leading suspension of the work order for the project.
As the 250-bed hospital was not constructed, the patients rushing to the same have been suffering badly for months together. Around 200 patients have been admitted in to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital as against its capacity for 100, they said.
Civil Surgeon in Jhenaidah Dr. Abdus Salam when contacted said, the construction work for the same project was completed in neighboring Chuadanga and Magura districts, while it is not settled for Jhenaidah.
The tender figure may be increased to Taka 48 crore from the existing figure for Taka 42 crore, Civil Surgeon informed.
